The theme of our 2012 challenge is:

 “Make Me Laugh”.

We all seem to take some things too seriously lately. The object is to create a challenge quilt that makes the viewer laugh out loud, giggle a little or at least smile. But please keep it clean.

CHALLENGE ITEMS WILL BE REVEALED AT OUR SEPTEMBER, 2012 GUILD MEETING AND VOTED ON BY OUR MEMBERS.

CHALLENGE ITEMS WILL ALSO BE DISPLAYED AT OUR SEPTEMBER 2012 QUILT SHOW.

Please note we have a new size requirement. All challenge quilts must be a 22” square!

RULES OF THE CHALLENGE:

• #1 RULE: HAVE FUN!!! Hopefully you’ll do a lot of laughing while you’re creating your challenge.
  
  

• Use your imagination! Your creation can be traditional or contemporary, but please keep it clean. 
  
  

• Finished Size: This time we’re going to have a standard finished size for the challenge of a 22” square. Any challenge that does not fit the requirements of a 22” square will be disqualified.
  
  

• Item Selection: Only small quilts or wall hangings measuring 22” square will be accepted. Please no tote bags, pocket books, vests, jackets, etc.
  
  

• Methods of Construction: You are free to use whatever construction or quilting methods work best for your creation (i.e., machine piece, hand piece, paper piece, applique, etc.). We encourage you to challenge yourself. Your creation can be as complicated or as simple as you like.
  
  

• Quilting Requirement: We would like you to create this item yourself, so no professional quilting unless you own your own long-arm machine. You can hand or machine quilt your item.
  
  

• Fabric Requirement: There is no limit to the total number of fabrics or kinds of fabrics used.
  
  

• Embellishments: Embellishments are optional.
  
  

• Hanging Sleeve: The quilt back must have a hanging sleeve at least 3” wide. We will be hanging the challenge quilts on a rope across the bleachers at our 2012 show similar to the way the patriotic quilts were hung at your 2010 show.
  
  

• Label: Make sure you put a label with your name on the back of your creation so it cannot be seen during judging. We need the label so we can return the challenge item to you after the show.
  
  

• Due Date: Your finished challenge is due at our September, 2012 guild meeting for judging by your quilt guild peers. Ribbons will be given to the top five winners. Only fully completed challenges will be accepted. All challenge creations will then be displayed at our September 2012 quilt show in our special “challenge quilt display” for others to laugh at and enjoy. If you are planning on giving your challenge item to someone as a gift, please know you will not get it back until after our September 2012 show. Please plan accordingly.
