Herring Run Quilters' Guild

With summer ending it seems our Getaway is just around the corner -yeah!!! We will be offering two classes which we are very excited about. The first is the Rangley Star with Deb Tucker. Each of the Rangley Star blocks is comprised of three different sized stars - one large, 12" block, one medium 8 1/2" block and three small 5" blocks.  They are all constructed in the same manner and can be combined to make a wall quilt 32" X 42" or a 93" X 110 quilt.

For those of you who don't know Deb, she is a high energy person whose enthusiasm for quilting is quite contagious. She has a wonderful new website: www.studio180design.net  which describes the class and gives pictures.She recently taught at the Cranberry Quilter’s guild and was much enjoyed.

Our other speaker is Carol Anne Grotrian who will be offering a class called Snapshot: Start a Picture Quilt. Pick your favorite photo and adapt it to quilting, using simple tools like photocopies and tracing paper. Grab that photo you've always wanted to make a quilt of and get started! All class sign ups will begin in October and they will be limited to the first 14 people each. The only problem is which one to choose! 

Friday night's speaker is a surprise -since Denise doesn't know who it is yet! She's working on a few leads and will keep us posted.

Menus are worked out in February so let Denise know if there are any diet restricted people out there. Denise will try to have a variety of offerings with a good smattering of fruits and veggies. As she has mentioned before there are no alcoholic beverages brought from the outside allowed in the public areas. You may consume what you want in your room or disguise it in your diet coke cup but no open containers please! 

For those of you who don't know, the Portsmouth Fabric Company is just a short walk from the hotel, so if you forget something -not to worry they have almost everything!

Roommates Needed 

Denise will have a "roommate needed" list at the September meeting so if you need a roommate please let me know by September.  Please make your reservations early so we can add rooms if needed. If you wish to go up on Thursday (so you can sew all day Friday) the rate will be the same $140 + tax per night for the room. Make sure you tell them you're with HRQG group when making your reservations to get the special rate. Sheraton Harborside -603-431-2300 or go to HRQG website for the link to our Sheraton website. Deadline for the reservations is Feb 15th. The final balance for the week-end will be due by the February meeting.

Denise asks that you have no more than 2 to a room please so we can fulfill our minimum room number. There will be a "roommate needed" sign up sheet starting in September or we can post it on the website as well. Denise will not be at the June meeting so please give your deposits to Sue Hart.  Feel free to call or email Denise with any questions you have about the Getaway.
